Student Demographics
The Belmont Community School District is a rural district located in Belmont, Wisconsin and serves a student population of 404 students from Lafayette and Grant Counties. The elementary school serves approximately 202 students in grades Pre-K-5. The middle school serves approximately 100 students in grades 6-8. And the high school serves 96 students in grades 9-12. Belmont Community School District serves approximately 7% minority students and approximately 34% economically disadvantaged students.

The Belmont Community School District is a rural district comprised of the village of Belmont and several townships located along the Highway 18-151 corridor between Madison, Wisconsin and Dubuque, Iowa. Major employment areas in Lafayette County include the following: manufacturing; trade, transportation and utilities; education and health. Average household income for Lafayette County is $60,000 - $68,000. Lafayette County’s annual average wage was $30,00 in 2014 which represents 70.5 percent of the statewide average of $43,456.
Labor Market Projections
Lafayette County saw a population increase of .7% over the last 5 years. The Southwest Workforce Development Area, which includes Lafayette County, is represented in the following areas. The largest industry sector in Lafayette County is trade, transportation and utilities with an employment share of 23.6 percent and a payroll share if 22.1 percent. Following in second and third places are the education & health and manufacturing sectors with employment shares of 19.5 % and 17.6 % and payroll shares of 20.7 % and 21.7 percent respectively.
In 2012, the area’s three largest industry sectors by jobs were the Trade, Transportation & Utilities; Education & Health Services; and Manufacturing sectors. Together, these sectors represented 59.2 percent of jobs in 2012 and are expected to continue as the three largest in 2022. The Education & Health Services sector is projected to gain more jobs than the other two leading sectors. Overall, there are 8,503 more jobs projected in 2022, a seven percent increase from 2012. The share of total jobs by industry sector is projected to change little through 2022. The Trade, Transportation, & Utilities sector is projected to have the largest decline in share of jobs. From 2012 to 2022, the share of jobs in the Trade, Transportation, & Utilities sector is projected to decrease from 2.3 percent to 24.4 percent.
While net manufacturing employment in projected to increase by just over 300 jobs in the next ten years, there will be many more opportunities for young workers in manufacturing because retirements in the sector are going to outpace declines. The share of jobs in the Education & Health Services sector is projected to have the largest gain in sector share of jobs. Education& Health is also projected to have the largest numeric gain in jobs with 3,123 additional jobs by 2022. Most sectors are projected to gain net jobs by 2022 with just the Natural Resources sector expecting a slight contraction in total employment.
Mission and Goals
The Mission of the Belmont Community School District is to provide opportunities for students to achieve their personal best, become responsible and productive citizens, and embrace learning in a safe and positive environment. We believe all students can learn and excel with developmentally appropriate materials, practices and strategies.
Our educational program will impart the necessary skills to excel in a changing and progressing society. Student learning and achievement is at the core of everything we do in our district. In order to reach and maintain our potential as a district, we must have a clear sense of our goals and we must define the characteristics of what it means to demonstrate high achievement. Our goal is that all students will be college and/or career ready upon graduation.
Services Provided to Students
Our comprehensive school counseling model includes Academic and Career Planning (ACP), a student-driven, adult-supported process in which students create and cultivate their own unique and information-based visions for post-secondary success, obtained through self-exploration, career exploration, and the development of career management and planning skills.
